Sarona supports women’s economic empowerment initiative in Berlin

As part of Germany’s G7 presidency, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development launched a new initiative and organised the “Economic Empowerment of Women – Unlock the Potential” conference alongside Women’s World Banking. The conference took place on 9-10 November in Berlin and encouraged the economic empowerment of women in order to reduce poverty and contribute to sustainable economic growth. Vivina Berla, Sarona’s co-Managing Partner and member of the Advisory Board of WWB Capital, participated in this inspiring event.

Under the banner “Equality Means Business”, more than 1,074 business leaders  around the world have demonstrated leadership on gender equality since 2010 by supporting publicly the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles.  The recent conference was an important platform for 250 international representatives from politics, business, academia and civil society to discuss how the inclusion of women in the economic fabric of society can best be promoted and achieved worldwide.

”The conference in Berlin was a welcome confirmation that women’s economic empowerment is essential to establish more stable and sustainable societies” commented Vivina Berla “the G7 initiative supported by Germany and complemented by WWB’s efforts reflects the need for collaboration between governments, civil society and the private sector to achieve challenging goals”.

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, one of Sarona’s objectives has been to encourage gender diversity in the workplace and on company boards. We do so by including relevant performance metrics to be compiled by our investee funds and companies for Sarona’s annual Values Report.
